Shane’s Inspiration

Posted by October 03, 2011

On September 24th, Jeff Singer and his family, Switch and Mitch Levy participated in the Shane’s Inspiration‘s Annual 5K/10K Walk and Roll at Griffith Park in Los Angeles as part of Team Sophie.  The mission of Shane’s Inspiration is to create inclusive playgrounds and programs that unite children of all abilities and their vision is to foster a bias-free world for children with disabilities.  The members of Team Sophie participated in a various runs and walks and fundraised over $22, 000 for the charity this year!  Team Sophie has been involved for ten years raising over $150,000 and Jeff Singer has been a board member for the last four.  Several members from Team Sophie wrote into us and shared their experiences.

From Jeff Singer Singer and his family:

Our family became involved with Shane’s Inspiration because we believe the vision and the mission of Shane’s Inspiration is so important.  Building inclusive playgrounds is the “hardware” for children to play while the education programs developed by Shane’s Team is the “software” which unites children of all abilities.  All children of all abilities want to play.  The education programs bring able body children together with children with disabilities to help foster a bias free world.

From Switch:

Every year, Sophie Singer and her family have a team and I was asked if I wanted to join and run the 10k.  It was really a wonderful thing to be a part of and represents a really great cause.  There were a lot of River Way campers and parents in attendance which was great to see.  It was an amazing event to be a part of and I am glad that I can bring awareness to such a wonderful organization.  Plus, Sophie loved it.   She enjoyed having her own team, team t-shirts, team picture and she was even featured on signs around the course.  It was really cool to take part this year.

From Mitch Levy:

The Shane’s Inspiration was a fun event and it involved a fundraiser with special needs kids. Running for team Sophie was a lot of fun.  Having her in mind helped me push through the track.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with us and congratulations on a successful event!
