3 Days and Counting and the Excitement Has Begun!

We’re making lists and checking them twice as 50+ staff members, 26 athletes, and many campers and friends make arrangements to head down to Zuma beach for the 25th Annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon!

As the athletes went in to their final weeks of training, they had some comments that they wanted to share which keep them motivated for the Big Weekend!!

Switch:

Three days ‘til the race… Or, three days ‘till I can lift weights again!”

Spike:

Here’s a quote that get me through the tough days…”A man can be as great as he wants to be.  If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are wiling to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.” –Vince Lombardi

Megatron:

“My legs consistently feel like noodles, my heart beats through my chest for 2 hours straight, I’m literally sweating through my shirt more than any guy at the gym, yet I just can’t get enough of the inspiration that follows Nautica Malibu Triathlon training.  I never knew my body could be pushed to these limits…and I haven’t even done the full triathlon yet.  I love Mahoney’s emails! ‘Jerry Reid’ takes up approximately 80% of my inbox currently, and if it weren’t for his emails, I’d probably spend a lot more time Facebook stalking RWR campers and counselors.”

Bageera:

“I don’t drink water anymore…I drink electrolytes and protein. Food is not just a meal anymore…it is fuel. Clothes are merely just things that make me slower…I live in spandex. My head does not feel right unless I am wearing a bike helmet. Blood, sweat, and tears are only hindrances…pain leaving my body. This is what I do…I am a River Way Triathlete!!!”

Squirrlee:

Training Mentality: Instead of thinking about the pain I go through when I’m training, or what I will be during the race. . I think about the kids who are fighting the biggest battle in their life. That is real pain. Not a little muscle soreness, or being out of breath- A true battle. Putting that into perspective drives me to succeed, not for myself, for them.

Spirit Team Captains:

We have posters and banners made and we’re going to have a sea of fans in the red ‘Team River Way’ shirts.  We will be leading camp songs, chants, and cheers to pump up the athletes and show our support for them. We both know this is a great cause, as does everyone that is coming to show their support for the athletes and the cause! Teeny and Finley are hoping we can dust off our cheerleading skills from high school and get the River Way cheering section the loudest on the beach so everyone will know and see how awesome it is to be part of Team River Way!

Good Luck to everybody participating on Sunday!  We look forward to sharing with you the results of our race!  Become a Fan of Team River on Facebook to stay up-to-date on Sunday with live results of the competition!  Also, check our blog on Tuesday for a full breakdown of the weekend.
